Abstract: The review examines articles in the collection Betel, Kava, Cola, Chat: Chewing Stimulants in Ritual and Mythology. For the field of Russian anthropology and ethnobotany, it is a unique collection of articles about chewing stimulants and their role in the social lives and ritual practices of the peoples of Asia and Africa. Gradually losing their position in the everyday life under the influence of the Western ideas about fashion and hygiene, chewing hallucinogens retain their role in the ritual; at the same time, accessories for storing ingredients are attractive for tourists.

Keywords: ethnobotany, chewing stimulants, betel, kava, cola, chat, mythology, ritual, teeth manipulations.
