Abstract: This article presents the results of a semantic study of the language of Russian mythological prose. The aim of the study is to describe the basic parameters of representation in the mythological narratives of the generalised collective agent — society as the holder of traditional knowledge and values. The subject of detailed analysis in the article is representation of this type of agent using indefinite-personal sentences with the verb “to say” and the functions of these structures in the mythological text. This syntax structure introduces the actual mythological information in the text. This occurs in different ways — by entering information about the fact, by entering the interpretation of the facts, and by entering a verbal formula. The presence and frequency of subjectless structures in mythological stories and their functional orientation to enter mythological information in the text indicates that carriers of the tradition perceive the society as the most authoritative source of data and estimates.

Keywords: mythological narrative, character, agent, nomination, semantics, function, folklore language.
