Andrei Moroz Russian State University for the Humanities Abstract: The book reviewed concerns a study of quarrels in the peasant culture of the second half of 19th — early 20th century. This book examines the quarrel as an important aspect of social relations in the everyday life of peasants: the place of quarrel in the life cycle of a peasant family and rural communities; specifics of a quarrel depending on the social status of a person in a rural community; specific periods of conflict, when a quarrel occurs, and the functions it performs; gender and communicative peculiarities of a quarrel; traditional juridical institutions and practices of reconciliation; the influence of a quarrel on other types of social interaction at various levels, from family to rural community. The work is based on the archive materials of the Ethnographic Bureau of V. N. Tenishev and periodicals of the period.
