Andrian Vlakhov European University at St Petersburg Abstract: The reviewed volume is the final publication of the international research project led by University of Nordland (Norway) during 2009–2013. The book, containing both theoretical and case-study chapters, describes the Norwegian High North from its residents’ perspective. To that end, twenty microethnographies were created by the project participants, and all of them focused on the life and activities of the High North population. The overarching goal of the project is to suggest the new conceptualisation of the High North (as proposed in Norwegian governmental strategies) through providing a complex set of such microethnographies. The review analyses the outcomes of the research project and highlights its main drawbacks, including underdeveloped methodology, lack of wellformulated research framework and final synthesis. The review also suggests possible development of review techniques, focusing on the issues of reviewing the collections of essays. Keywords: High North, Norwegian North, Arctic, ethnographic methods.
