THE 8TH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM OF AMERICANISTS “THE CONFLUENCE OF TWO WORLDS: THE HISTORY, MOBILITY, AND STATUS OF THE POPULATION OF AMERICA BEFORE AND AFTER COLUMBUS”

Abstract: The publication presents the results of a survey among the participants of the 8th International Symposium of Americanists (December 3–4, 2018, Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera), Russian Academy of Sciences, St Petersburg). One of the results of the symposium was the awareness of the challenges that are now being observed in relation to anthropological studies of the Americas in Russia. Survey participants emphasized the importance of encouraging an alternative vision of their research, promoting the creation of competing areas in the discipline, as well as the integration of Russian Americanists into world anthropology.
